For today's post that last part is true, literally. Up until yesterday, all weather systems that came through our part of Kentucky this season had only given us small amounts of frozen precipitation or lots of rain. But March managed to live up to it's "comes in like a lion" reputation when Winter finally managed to hit us with some significant measurable accumulation.
A winter storm that formed on the west coast on Friday and traveled quickly across the country dumped about 4 inches of sleet and snow on us here in South Central Kentucky starting late Sunday afternoon until mid morning on Monday.
It is the most significant storm to hit Warren county, so far, this year. Local government offices issued warnings to stay off the streets because travel conditions were hazardous.
The road conditions caused all school systems to close as well as a lot of stores and businesses. Even Western Kentucky University cancelled classes. According to my wife, that is something that doesn't happen very often.
Paula stayed home; setting up a temporary office at our kitchen table so she could work from the house.
Because the schools were closed, I didn't have to go to work in the afternoon either. So we had a day at home together.
Paula took some time in the morning to take some pictures of our yard. She's my guest photographer for today. Here's what she posted on Facebook.
Now I know that those of you reading this who live anywhere north of us are reading this post and yelling "SHUT UP" at your computer screen.
I realize that a lof of you live in areas that have had record breaking amounts of snow and freezing temperatures this winter. For you just 4 inches of accumulation would be easy to handle at this point. But for us here this storm has had the biggest effect on the area than any other this winter.
Yes, discussions about the weather are very boring and sometimes a sign that there's nothing more interesting to talk about. But this storm that the weather forecasters finally predicted correctly was definitely a factor for me yesterday.
That makes it a viable resource for a blog post. And like I said it literally came to my front door. It's kind of ironic after the two previous posts I wrote cursing the weather that this time I have to say, "Thanks Winter."
